Tofurky thrives on fun, good humor, and the delightfully unexpected—making April Fool’s Day the perfect stage for creative engagement on social media.
Over the years, I developed campaigns featuring hilariously unbelievable products that were equal parts eye-catching and entertaining. These playful creations didn’t just spark laughs—they drove social media traction and kept Tofurky fans coming back for more.
2021- was Tofurky's first dip into the April Fool's Day fun. For the inaugural years fun being that it was so close on the heels of the Covid-19 pandemic, I created a fake hand santizer that was scented like our Smoked Ham Deli Slices and of course, in the spirit of imagination...was edible.
2022- Brought back the notion of fun fake products that were so possible you the joke might slip right passed at truth. 2022 was a year of boom in the canned seltzer market. I took that as an opportunity to forge some false bevy's. For your viewing pleasure, the Tofurky "Oven Steam Sippers." What does that mean? were they made from condensed steam from the Tofurky factory ovens?, was it just clever marketing name? Were they real? These were the questions our fans were asking themselves while scrolling our social channels on April 1, 2022. Three flavors to quench your thirst.
2023- A year to zig when all those wise to Tofurky's April Fool's Day fun would zag. In 2023 we partnered with our copywriting agency to drum up some clever phrasing to release on bumper stickers. While it wasn't technically a "fool" I am certain the copy these fun designs brought a smile to many faces and a chuckle to those who are in on the joke.
2024- In 2024 the move was obvious...make more fake, but so extremely believable products. This time around it was a rich, savory Gravy....body spray? The hard-earned aroma of cooking in the kitchen or over the grill all day but none of the stress, smoke or hard work. This extremely funny ideas was presented via a faux fragrance print advertisement and a few AI aided testimonial style comp's Tofurky's CD drummed up. These images helped to drive to customers through social channels and even an email newsletter to drum up the monthly newsletter subscription.
